Warts are one of the more unsightly types of tumor that grow externally on a persons body and are generally most prevalent and the hands or feet but they can also grow around male and female genitals, even on the inside of the mouth. Some people are unfortunate enough to catch their warts from someone else, even if is only because they used their towel.

With the exception of warts that are found on the soles of the feet, warts are usually quite painless but genital warts are highly contagious; caught during acts of sex, even oral. Women can actually have warts on the inside of the vaginal walls and not know they have the growths.

There isn't normally any reason to have warts removed as they don't prove normally to be a problem but if they are the result of an incision then they can start spreading especially if picked at. A common reason for eradicating warts is to stop further spread but even when this is achieved, they can return at any time and for some people they can become a persistent nuisance. The favorite method of getting rid of warts by doctors is with liquid nitrogen which is extremely cold but even this usually takes more than one application.

To most people one wart is pretty much the same as another but there are many forms of the human papillomavirus which causes the wart . In fact over one hundred types exist, known as human papillomavirus; some have very specific areas of attack including those that form on the genitals or anus. The 100 hundred different type of wart in the human papillomavirus group are quite focused in the areas they attack including those that are found in the genitalia.

The most frequently seen wart is that on the ends of fingers, often the result of a person biting their nails which can leave the skin tender but not everyone has the same problems with warts but why some people are more prone to getting them than others remains a mystery. It is the warts on fingers that are common warts with their cauliflower appearance often with little black specks that are in fact small blood vessels where the blood has clotted.

The warts sometimes seen on the face, legs and arms are the flat warts which are much smaller that their common wart cousins; they are also smoother and skin colored but they can often be found in groups which may contain many, even a 100 or more. Warts found in the ano-genital area can also be flesh colored, also gray but these might be shiny and have the cauliflower appearance as well; they like damp areas and this is why they can be found inside the vagina and even the urethra.

It is not known why but often warts will vanish on their own but in some cases this can take years, others however, require a little help as they are persistent and show no signs of disappearing. Treatments available to remove warts and verrucas are generally easily obtained from a drugstore and contain salicylic acid which is very good but the cleaning regime during the treatment is very specific and must be followed.
